A little love for moms

Major props to my little guy and his dad for a lovely Mother's Day.  Homemade waffles for breakfast, a trip to Flower World for a little plant shopping and even some time in the garden. The day was great. There are even a few things blooming in the garden that haven't already been well documented here in my desperate need for blooms. Bleeding hearts have popped up around the backyard. I really had no idea where these had ended up after the renovation, and was surprised they survived at all. Even better!
A variegated azalea is heavy with red blooms and camouflages some of the hellebore that are starting to fade a bit. The azaleas were a Home Depot purchase added to the hellebore garden for some year round interest. The variegated leaves are a nice way to break up some of the shade corners under the camellia and rhododendron that anchor this spot.

The little guy hitched a ride before we loaded up on plants at Flower World in Maltby. I picked up a variety of groundcovers, bunchberry, astilbe, another azalea, garlic, lemon balm and some corn just in case my seeds are duds. I just got the corn seed in the ground today so I won't hold my breath for that harvest. The hubby helped me FINALLY get the pea trellis up. I'll share photos of the veggie bed tomorrow. For now I'm off to round out my Mother's Day with a chick flick!

Don't you just love the bleeding hearts?! Flower World was nuts yesterday. I thought we were smart to go a day early, but it sounds like it was crazy both days. Sounds like you found lots of good things to buy.
Happy Mother's Day!

Glad you had such a great day, happy belated M's Day to you! I was going to get in a nursery visit but we stayed so long at the tree festival, which was fun, that we didn't have time. That's okay, I get more done when I go on my own anyway. :) Oh no, you bought lemon balm??!! I almost just did a post on how nobody should ever plant it! It goes EVERYWHERE! If you want that in a plant, I have a lot more that I can give you! I also am finally getting ready to dig out the big heaths (heathers?) so if you still want those, let's schedule some time to work on that together. Love the white bleeding hearts, I need some of those for next spring!

Those bleeding hearts are really lovely. Loved your bird pics too although I have no idea what kind of hummer that is.
