We meet again ...

Months have passed since I last wrote, and it seems even longer since I've been in the garden. Luscious hues of butter cream and deep red have given way to fall's crackling oranges and fading yellows. Now more than ever I yearn to be in the garden, but demands of a growing family often win out.
Echinacea 'Big Sky' is still a hot spot in our backyard garden. Many of the blooms have been pinched by Big Brother and brought to Mama with a boisterous rendition of "Happy Birthday."
My photo portfolio is sadly lacking shots of the garden, so I thought I'd share a pic of one of our hens, Foo Foo. She's a 7-month-old Wyandotte who until the last couple weeks had been treating us to an egg a day. Shorter days are surely the culprit for her egg laying reduction, although I can't but wonder if she misses Beaker, our rooster we sent to live with Molly from Life on Tiger Mountain.

What is the tiny purple flower with the echinacea?

Welcome back! Your first photograph with the Echinacea is just gorgeous. Foo Foo is adorable too. We have some Golden Laced Wyandottes of similar age, hatched at the end of the March. They are beautiful birds. Chickens are funny creatures though, and they are highly social. Was Beaker her only companion?

So glad you posted again! I have Big Sky although it's still small, I hope I get more next year. How cute that your son picks them and sings to you.

The Echinacea picture is wonderful. I think your photo is even better than the flower.

Thank you for following Pictures Just Pictures.

I’ve now used all the allotted space for photos there and have started a new blog so I can carry on. It’s called

Message in a Milk Bottle
http://messageinamilkbottle.blogspot.com/

I’ve given it a different look but its purpose is unchanged - a photo a day.

I have 'Big Sky' in my garden also and am liking them more and more every year. How sweet that Big Brother would bring you a bouquet of 'Big Sky' while singing Happy Birthday.

Foo Foo is a beauty.

Makes me think I want chickens in the garden. What a cutie. Love the echinacea and lavender.

Gardening is a beautiful habit and hobby to follow as it gives content to the heart and peace to the mind. Even I have a small garden in my backyard but it is a pond garden. I'm just so envious! It's absolutely beautiful and a sure sign that fairies inhabit your garden!
