I wish I knew what kind they were. I don't know Iris, unfortunately.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kathleen: Not sure if they're black iris. They're a really deep merlot color, or something like that. They get morning sun but are mostly shaded from the real heat of the day. However, there were more on the south side of the house that really take a beating from the sun. But they're fine too. Such adaptable plants!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Karen: I don't think mine smell, I wish! But now I'm trying to remember if I've actually taken a whiff. I'll do that today. Be sure to share those new flowers, too. I need to go to Swansons where I still have money on a GC. My parking strip needs serious help!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Darla: They are a fun architectural plant. However, I need to plant something around them when they start to whither.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Brenda: Maybe it's a different kind of catmint? Are those black iris??  They look so dark in bud form, I bet they&amp;#39;re gorgeous in bloom.  I was interested to read that you have iris planted in shade under an apple tree.  Most of mine are under my oak tree and I keep contemplating moving them (because I always think they prefer sun). They bloom well tho so I&amp;#39;ve left them alone so far.
